As third generation family farmers, my wife and I want to see our land continue to produce nutritious, fresh food for several years into the future. We'd like to be able to pass this orchard down to another generation of Nicholsons if they are interested in taking over. Unfortunately, poor economic returns to growers and the loss of land to housing and other non-farm uses may make this dream unattainable.

This year myself and eleven of my neighbors joined The Food Alliance. Their goal of "...creating a sustainable farming system to help farmers and ranchers become more economically viable, environmentally sound, and socially responsible," appealed to us.

To qualify for Food Alliance Approval my neighbors and I had to go through several months of preparation; including a rigorous 36 page questionaire pertaining to our growing practices, and onsite farm inspections.

If you support the concept of clean air and water, healthy food, fertile soils and safe, fair conditions for workers; please support the family farms that share these values.

If your grocer doesn't participate in The Food Alliance program, please print this page and give him a copy.

Thanks,

The Nicholsons
